St. Sava Cathedral

2016-09 / Belgrade, Serbia

My husband's name is Seva. I often chuckled to myself over all the mentions of the patron saint of Belgrade: St. Sava. This is the St. Sava Cathedral (which I would sometimes call "your cathedral" when talking to my husband about it). It's the largest orthodox cathedral in the world.A few years ago, I received my first postcard from Serbia. I had never planned on visiting the country, but when I saw this cathedral in the card, it actually flew on to my radar. When I actually did visit Serbia, I made sure to take the time to visit it. In fact, our hotel was about one block away from the cathedral and we could see it from our window. It certainly is massive and impressive, this cathedral, and it meant a lot to me seeing it because it kind of made me feel like anything is possible. The first time I saw it pictured on that card--though I found it lovely--I didn't think I'd ever have a reason or the means to visit. But I did and I saw that place in reality. It's just funny how there is no such thing as impossible.
