Guiding Mist

2016-06 / Saint Petersburg, Russia

This was taken inside the Alexander Nevsky Lavra (apparently "lavra" just means monastery. I was thinking it was part of his name all this time.). There are two necropoli and a cemetery on the grounds of this lavra and they are all amazing. One necropolis is the place of the tombs of many famous Russians (including Dostoyevsky and Tchaicovsky), but the second one is just a necropolis for people of the time. The way the tombs are spaced so close together and with little theme to size or shape really makes me smile. I love when there's some personality to a cemetery. This statue was very striking to me as it was such great contrast against the dark tombs. Definitely a view that I spent a few precious moments at, appreciating the beauty.
