From the Restaurant

2016-03 / Hong Kong

This was the view from the window of the first restaurant we ate at in Hong Kong. We ordered some soups and, when the woman asked my husband how spicy he wanted his (on a scale from 1 to 10), he said confidently "9.5." We all gasped and asked if he was sure. But he stuck to it and all the workers and patrons looked on in awe as this foreigner attempted almost the spiciest soup they could muster. I seriously thought he was going to die as tears rolled down his red face and his glasses fogged up from the heat of his bad decision. But he made it. He survived, even though he didn't drink the liquid left over. His goal in life is to go back and order number 10.
