Dracula

2014 / Florence, Oregon, USA

Graphite18x24This was my fist time working with powdered graphite. Powdered charcoal is a definite godsend, but I wasn't sure how graphite would work in the same fashion as you often get that terrible metallic shine with too much graphite, but it really added a beautiful neutral grey to work with. This is a shot from the 1933 film Dracula which is one of my favourite classic films. Mostly because Bèla Lugosi has the most incredible on screen presence. Dracula is one of my favourite novels, and, while this movie doesn't really follow the book at all, it's still a classic in its own right.
